| Went to my car this am, and found the petrol gauge on almost red, thinking someone had syphoned my tank, I went to the local garage and filled up with £37 worth of petrol, fuel gauge did not move, but have strong smell of fuel in the car. Can find no visible leaks either underneath the car, it is an 06 reg with 11,600 miles on the clock. What could this be?

| Hi It depends on what Fiat it is, but the fuel gauge sender unit usually hangs from a plate that fits into the top of the fuel tank - often accessed through the floor under the back seat. If this plate has come loose for some reason it could be your problem - but surely an 06 reg is still under warranty? Assuming it is, go back to the dealer, or get the warranty breakdown service out to have a look. Tim
