I bought a 57 plate Chevrolet Lacetti 1.6 sx hatch in February 2009. It has been a good summer and the car is usually garaged. Now I find that when it rains the driver's footwell and rear passenger's footwell get saturated. This was first noticed about 4 weeks ago and since then I have dried out the car twice and left it in the driveway overnight when rain was forecast to make sure that the water was not coming from aircon, washers etc. The ingress is so bad that the carpets are saturated and there is a visible pool of water on them and this can happen overnight in heavy rain. Even though the car is only 18 months old Chevrolet say that water ingress is only covered by the warranty for the 1st year so I either get to work myself or pay a hefty bill. Any ideas as to most likely cause?

Hi

Check the plenum chambers - look under the bonnet below the windscreen - there is one or often two chambers under the screen at either side of the engine bay.  They have drains in the bottom to get rid of water but these often block with dead leaves, dirt etc.  The chambers should be dry - if not, the drains are blocked.  Poke around to find the drain and clear the blockage to let the water drain away, then keep them clear by checking regularly.  If not this, check the pollen filter cover - often not refitted correctly.
