| Hi I have taken my fiat multipla to the garage because the fault light comes on then there is not much power, they have twice scanned it and have changed one thing but that didnt work. The garage said the car is indicating that it has an air leak but they cannot find it. I now need to get an mot before I can drive it to a different garage. Any ideas what it could be and is it likely to fail the mot for this problem?

Hi
First of all, you can take it to a different garage without having to get an MOT first, provided the new garage is an MOT centre and you have insurance. Just book it in for a test and you can drive perfectly legally to the garage for the test. As to what the problem is, if it is an air leak it's usually one of the engine breather pipes or a loose clip on the large pipes going to and from the throttle housing. Make sure the clips are tight, then look at all the rubber pipes in case any are split. After the car is a few years old it's also a good idea to put jubilee clips on them as well, especially if any turn on the metal pipe they connect to. However, the garage the cars at doesn't seem terribly bright, so it might be as well to let the new one start from scratch and run a diagnostic code check first.
